Joel Clark embodied a lively entrepreneurial spirit and grit from a young age.  When his brother Jon handed Kodiak Cakes operations over to him in 1997, Joel was a 23-year-old economics major attending the University of Utah. Over the next 7 years, Kodiak was a side hustle while Joel juggled side jobs, earned an MBA from Oxford University, and was finally able to turn Kodiak Cakes into a “real job.”  Joel adopted his spirit of perseverance and drive into the Kodiak culture by setting a clear mission and vision, being transparent in the challenges and opportunities, teaching people to take ownership, and setting forth clear accountability for growth.  In 2017, Joel was honored by Utah Business Magazine as CEO of the year and in 2018, he was honored by Ernst and Young for their Entrepreneur of the Year award.  After 25 years, Joel continues to lead the Kodiak Cakes team through empowerment, collaboration, and the encouragement to “come as you are and leave better.”
